How much does a website actually cost?

The honest answer: it depends on scope, and anyone who gives you one number without asking questions is selling you a template. Here is how we think about website economics: the engagement shapes, what each includes, and what shapes the onboarding fee. How it works

The three tiers, described honestly

Almost every business website we build falls into one of these. The right tier is the smallest one that does the job:

  • The landing page. One page, one offer, one action. Built to convert a specific stream of traffic, usually from ads or email, into calls or form fills. Includes conversion copy, mobile-first design, speed engineering, and tracking wired to your ad accounts. This is a sales tool, not a website.
  • The business website. A full multi-page site: home, services, about, location or service-area pages, contact, and the supporting content a buyer expects before they call. Local SEO structure baked in from day one, copy written to sell, every page with a job to do. This is what most established local businesses actually need.
  • The custom build. For businesses where the website is the operation: multi-location architectures, calculators and quoting tools, booking and intake systems, content hubs built to rank, deep integrations with CRMs and ad platforms. Designed around your specific conversion economics, not around a page count.

We will not sell you the custom build when the business website does the job. Part of the quoting conversation is us telling you when a smaller tier is enough. That honesty costs us upsells and earns us clients.

Every build starts with a startup onboarding fee. The number depends on your industry, your niche, and where the company stands today: what you need the site to do and what already exists. For projects and operators we believe in, the fee can be waived. Where the site drives measurable growth, the engagement carries a profit share on that growth. In deeper partnerships, equity or royalty structures are on the table.

What shapes it

What shapes the onboarding fee

When we quote a build, these are the real levers. Understanding them keeps you from paying for things you do not need:

  • Copy. The most underestimated cost driver. Writing that actually persuades is a separate discipline from design, and it is the difference between a site that looks good and a site that sells. Copy is included in our builds because a beautiful site with weak copy is an expensive brochure.
  • Page count and content depth. More pages means more copy, more design decisions, more SEO structure. A 6-page site and a 40-page site are different projects.
  • Design originality. Every build we do is designed for the business, not poured into a template. That takes real design time, and it is why our sites do not look like everyone else's.
  • Integrations. CRMs, booking systems, quoting tools, call tracking, analytics, ad pixels. Each integration is engineering time and testing time.
  • SEO and performance engineering. Site architecture, schema, page speed, Core Web Vitals. This is invisible work that decides whether Google and your visitors take the site seriously.
  • Media. Real photography, video, and brand assets versus stock. We will be direct about when your phone photos are fine and when they are costing you credibility.

Notice what is missing: hourly billing theater and line items designed to confuse. You get a defined engagement and a defined fee. If the scope changes, the fee changes, and you approve it before we touch anything.

What we won't do

What we will not do

A few positions we hold that save our clients money:

  • We do not sell redesigns to businesses whose real problem is traffic. A new look does not fix an empty funnel. If that is your situation, we say so and point you at the actual problem.
  • We do not build on bloated page builders that load slowly and rank poorly. Speed is a conversion factor and a ranking factor, so we build for it.
  • We do not hand you a site and disappear. Launch includes analytics, conversion tracking, and a handoff where you understand what you own.
  • We do not do "unlimited revisions" pricing, because it incentivizes endless tinkering. We do structured review rounds that end with a site that ships.

Our sites are built the way we build for our own portfolio companies: fast, conversion-focused, and engineered to make the phone ring. Instant Money Junk Cars runs on exactly this philosophy, a site built to convert, not to decorate. If your current site looks fine but does not sell, start with our website conversion audit instead of a full rebuild. Sometimes the fix is smaller than you think. And the standing rule: we aren't a marketing company. The marketing services we offer are just for our partner clients.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

It depends on the engagement: a startup onboarding fee shaped by your industry, your niche, and where the company stands today, with profit share on growth where the site drives it. A focused landing page, a full business website, and a custom conversion-focused build are different projects with different economics. What matters is which engagement your business actually needs, and this page breaks those down honestly.

Copy and content depth, page count, custom design versus templated layout, integrations, and SEO and performance engineering. The biggest driver people underestimate is copy: writing that actually sells is a separate discipline from design.

No. Every build is designed around the business it serves: its offer, its buyer, and its conversion path. A template optimizes for looking finished. We optimize for producing revenue.

Yes. Copy is part of the build, not an afterthought you are expected to supply. A beautiful site with weak copy is an expensive brochure, and we do not build brochures.

Scope decides the schedule: a landing page moves fast, a full business site takes longer, and custom builds with integrations take longest. We give you a real schedule in the quote, not a hopeful one.

Yes, and we usually recommend starting with a conversion audit first so the redesign fixes the actual problems instead of just changing the look. See our website conversion audit page for how that works.

No. We aren't a marketing company. The marketing services we offer are just for our partner clients.
